Veteran's Day

Updated: May 12

ree

Today is Veteran’s Day - a salute to those who kept and are keeping this nation free of tyranny and oppression from our adversaries. It is traditionally a day of honor, a day of respect, and a day of remembrance for those of us who served and made personal sacrifices for our national defense.

Active duty, Reservist, National Guard, and retired military veterans join forces from all backgrounds united in the common defense of the foundational principles of freedom, equality, and justice which we pledge to uphold in these United States of America. It is military members who defend the rights of our all people, with force when required, even the rights of those who disparage our Constitutional values we vow to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

After serving in uniform for 22 years, this Veteran’s Day felt more solemn and reflective. I wondered, was my sacrifice worth it? In my studies of military conflict, those driven by tyranny and oppression have insatiable appetites fueled by their lust for power and control. The stripping away of rights from one group may only be the precursor to stripping away the rights of the next group. Eventually, all groups are impacted even those who thought they would escape unharmed.

Every generation has been called upon to provide for America’s common defense. The rights military members voluntarily set aside to protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is still a noble cause and worthy of recognition. Freedom has always carried a responsibility and a cost, and someone must pay the bill. Some people may never understand or appreciate the price that purchased their freedom as Americans, but I do.

My fellow veterans, I salute you. I feel you. I see you. I hear you…all of you and I thank you for your service. United We Stand!
